Star Trek: Comets Rising pt. III
U.S.S. Explorer NCC-74316 Transporter room 1 Deck 6 section 12 Teresa Deilia and Tora materializes on the transport pads after talking with Captain Dan Artaro of the S.S. Astral Queen. Stepping down, Tora heads to the door. "Captain I will head to engineering now. I will give you my report in an hour." she says as Ter nods. "That`s good Tora there`s no rush." She grins to the Bajoran as she heads out. Ter turns to Chief Leeds "Carry on lieutenant." she winks at him as he nods "Aye Captain" he says as Ter and Deil head out from the Transporter and step over to the turbo lift. As the door slides open they enter. "Main Bridge" Ter calls out when the door closes. Main Bridge Deck 1 Section 1 On the bridge Deilia sits on the First Officer chair as Ter still stands."Mr. D`Khan contact Starfleet then send it over to my Ready Room." she orders. "Aye." Zang replies as he contacts Starfleet. "Vice Admiral Janssen is waiting for you on line 2 Captain. I am sending it to your Ready Room now."

Captains Log: Supplemental "After responding to a distress call from the S.S. Astral Queen, We put the Explorers new weapons upgrades to the test and engaged with the Pakleds that attacked the cruise ship in order to kidnap a New Age band called the Comets. Why they kidnapped them I have no idea but we did successfully and severally disabled the Pakleds ship enough to leave them to flee on their own. We`re returning to the Astral Queen to assess their damage and offer help they might need." Explorer - Main bridge Teresa Chang huffs while sitting on the Command Chair after hearing Counselor Payton tell her that the Comets lead singer Vana, an Elasian who happens to be the Dohlmans Daughter was unsatisfied with the groups VIP quarters that Amara showed them. After rubbing the bridge of her nose she turns to her First Officer, Commander Deilia Neer. "You have the bridge Deil. I`m going to find out what`s going on." she says then stands up and steps over to the turbolift. The

7 USS ENCELADUS, SHACKLETON EXPANSE JUNE 22, 2380 The salvage operation on the Romulan warbird proved to be a fairly straightforward if labour-intensive operation. Cera commanded the away team which included Lieutenant T’Nara and Crewmen Vorok and Sovar from sciences; Ensign Sarov and Crewman Stovel from operations; Crewmen Suran and T’Val from engineering; Crewmen Salis and T’Pel from command; and Crewmen T’Laris, Kolang and Dara from security. Priority was of course the recovery of the Romulan cloaking device. They found it damaged and non-functioning but fully intact – which was more than Cera had hoped for. For her this meant a much easier job of figuring out how it worked. She was the only person on the entire ship who had a hands-on working knowledge of cloaking devices, having built Calypso’s cloaking device using raw parts and a technical guide. This bit of information came as a surprise to Captain Harada, who was openly thrilled. His belief that he had the best damn

6 FGC-645754, SHACKLETON EXPANSE JUNE 18, 2380 “Ops, can you identify that ship?” Captain Harada requested. “It’s an Orion scout,” Garadun replied automatically. “He’s correct, Captain,” Lieutenant Tyson added. “Computer records identify it as an Orion scout vessel. But this class of ship hasn’t been used for at least fifty years, maybe a century. It’s a very old design.” “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” Garadun remarked, smirking. “Captain, I’m reading modern phaser banks and torpedoes,” Jalin supplied. “The hull configuration may be an old design, but it’s packing modern weaponry.” “The Klingons have also been using some of the same basic designs for centuries,” Commander Valis agreed. “Like the D7 and the Bird-of-Prey.” “Hail them,” Harada instructed. Oh god, here we go, Garadun thought in annoyance. “No answer to our hails,” Tyson announced. “Their shields are up and phasers fully charged,” Jalin supplied. “Speed increasing.”

As it had turned out, Grant had been far more exhausted than he had thought. Sleeping on soil and unnaturally sharp leaves was far from restful, and the extent of that was only revealed when his back touched the collection of blankets that made up Rosa's mattress. She had wept before falling into the arms of slumber, holding on to him tightly, and Grant had tried to strike a balance between warmth for his friend and a chilled shield to keep any idea of romance away. When he opened his eyes now, she was laying beside him, clutching his arm, head resting on his shoulder. Daylight beamed in through the window, daylight that felt so real it fooled him for a second. It was warm, and Rosa was warm, and … He moved her hand gently and slid out from beneath her, propping up her head with a pillow. He stood up, but a murmur from behind him held his feet. “Orson?” He looked around at Rosa. She was gazing up at him sleepily. “You always did rise early.” “Some things never change.” She

5 FGC-645754, SHACKLETON EXPANSE JUNE 18, 2380 As it turned out, the warnings which had been given about the hazards of the Shackleton Expanse hadn’t been exaggerated. The entire spinward edge of the Expanse where it met the border of Federation space was covered in what was called the Endurance Divide: a massive region of interstellar dust, cold gases and numerous brown dwarfs. It effectively neutralised accurate sensor scans, and increased the amount of power that was needed to maintain a stable subspace warp bubble. The Divide varied from one to three light-years in thickness, and Starfleet scientists recommended that ships maintain low warp speeds while passing through the Divide to reduce wear and tear on subspace coils. It was also recommended that detailed sensor sweeps were maintained to spot dangerous obstacles, and dense conglomerations of gas and dust that could tax the ability of the primary deflector array in protecting the starship from harm. Further, while inside

4 STARBASE 123, FEDERATION SPACE JUNE 15, 2380 The excursion party returned to the Starbase from the dayside of the planet after a four-hour trip, leaving everyone tremendously impressed with the desert landscape. Neither of the ATVs had broken down, leaving people stranded. Nor had there been any abrupt collapses of the ground beneath them, dropping and trapping them in some dangerous cave. The red sun hadn’t unexpectantly flared, there hadn’t been a sudden and deadly ion storm, and gigantic desert lifeforms hadn’t attacked them for no reason. The comms didn’t inexplicitly go down and there was no unforeseen asteroid strike. Almost a miracle, really, for a routine expedition with Starfleet personnel involved. They were in the Starbase’s main garage, many of them talking animatedly about their experience and wondering if they should try a trip into the night side next, when Cera’s combadge went off. “Harada to Lieutenant Rigel.” Cera tapped her combadge. “Rigel

3 USS ENCELADUS, STARBASE 123 ORBIT JUNE 15, 2380 Garadun was standing in front of his food replicator, going through the menu and trying to decide what to have for lunch, when his door buzzer went off. Magik had already had her lunch (cat-sized portion of roast chicken with mash and gravy) and was now lying on the couch and watching TV. One of Garadun’s eccentricities was that he had a replica widescreen television in his living room to watch old shows and movies. At least for the twenty-fourth century it was an eccentricity. Making for the door, he caught a glimpse of what his kitty was watching: The Day the Earth Stood Still, the original 1951 black and white film. Although he knew the classic bit of sci-fi he’d never actually seen it. Magik seemed completely engrossed. When the door split open, he was surprised to see T’Laris there. She looked as calm as any Vulcan might be, in an at-ease position with her hands behind her back. “Am I disturbing you, Ensign?” she asked.
